Decompress with The Great Yoga Wall

Since the beginning of yoga and other movement modalities, it has been understood that the human body is constantly under the stress of gravity. Compression of the spine, the joints, and the nervous system, leads to pain, loss of mobility, and aging of the body. The effects of gravity can be reversed, though, by using traction to create space and alignment in the body.

Join Letitia Walker for a weekend exploration of The Great Yoga Wall and discover how this unique and infinitely-adjustable prop can help you create space in your body, improve mobility, regulate the nervous system, and reverse the effects of gravity while deepening your experience of yoga and movement modalities. Leave taller, more open, energized and relaxed after a weekend of hanging out on The Great Yoga Wall.

Schedule

April 29, 2023

  • 9 am - 12 pm: Standing Poses and Hip Exploration
Our opening session will cover The Great Yoga Wall safety concepts, the use of accessories, and how to discuss accessory usage in a clear and efficient manner with students or partners in a pose. We’ll explore how to use traction to create space in the hip joints, relieve compression in the lumbar spine, and go deeper in Standing Poses. Students will work in pairs to deepen the traction and support each other in increasing the range of motion in the hip joint.
  • 1 pm - 4 pm: Inversions and the Spinal Rejuvenation Series
One of the best uses of the Great Yoga Wall is the ease in which it supports practitioners in inverting when strength and flexibility obstacles stand in the way of going upside down. Give your spine and nervous system the traction it’s been craving and reverse the effects of gravity and the aging process. Students will work in pairs to deepen the traction and support each other in going upside down.

April 29, 2023

  • 9 am - 12 pm: Twists and Backbends
Feel the power of the wall to deepen your twists and backbends with ease. Learn how to support the mobility of your spine as well as the strength of your back body while creating space in the abdominals and hip flexor muscles. Students will work in pairs to deepen the traction and support each other in exploring twists and backbends in a variety of positions from seated to standing to inversions.
  • Starting at 1pm: Learning how to guide others in Spinal Traction
This session will explore how to guide clients and students through the Spinal Rejuvenation Series, including variations for those who choose not to invert or for whom it is a contraindication. Participants will learn how to discern which variation will serve a student best as well as therapeutic applications of spinal traction using The Great Yoga Wall. This session will be no more than 3 hours.
